14 Days to NYC: FSTA FAST FACT: Media Consumption and the Fantasy Player

By Will Mossa,    FSGA Event News

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that fantasy sports players are plugged into the Internet for information about their teams, their players and the latest news about the sport they play. The Internet is the predominant way to keep score in the fantasy sports.

But as the 2014 Fantasy Sports Trade association study found, those players also are more plugged in when consuming other media than someone who never has played the game.

The study, conducted by Ipsos, found that 75% of fantasy players watched movies at home, compared with 66% of non-players.  They watched more high-definition TV (73%-62%), were more likely to play video games (59%-43%), more likely to listen to digital music (48%-33%) and almost twice as likely to listen to satellite radio (31%-18%).

The most surprising statistic, however, might be that fantasy players are also more likely to consume traditional media than someone who doesn’t play. They read more magazines (61%-49%), read more newspapers (62%-43%) and watched more movies in a theater (45%-29%).

It also means fantasy sports players also do something else with their lives than play fantasy sports.
