Joe Bryant elected to Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame

Induction ceremony to take place June 14 at
Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association’s Summer Conference in Detroit

MIDDLETON, Wis. – The Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association announced today the election of Joe Bryant to the Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame.

Bryant is the co-founder and CEO of Footballguys.com which, upon its launch in 1991, became one of the industry’s first content sites focusing on a single sport. Footballguys.com is renowned for its depth of content and tools, including coverage that addresses every aspect of fantasy football from standard leagues to survivor pools and everything in between.

In the mid-90s, Bryant invented the concept of “Value Based Drafting,” a system that utilizes an economic valuation model and places an emphasis on position scarcity and detailed statistical projections. VBD remains a foundational drafting mechanism to this day.

Perhaps most notably, however, Bryant has provided employment for hundreds of people since the inception of Footballguys.com and many prominent writers got their start with Bryant.

“I’m delighted with the selection of Joe Bryant as our next Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame member and I’d like to thank the Hall of Fame Committee – chaired this year by Yahoo’s Daniel Haight – for taking the time to select such a deserving recipient,” said FSGA Chair Stacie Stern. “For over 30 years, Joe has contributed in a meaningful way to the fantasy sports industry and his selection is a testament to his hard work and commitment to helping the average fantasy football player win their league.”

In typical fashion, Bryant was gracious when learning about his election to the Hall of Fame. “I figured out a long time ago it’s more about the process and journey than the destination,” said Bryant. “I couldn’t be prouder of my ‘coaching tree’ and the large number of people who’ve been involved in Footballguys – many of whom are still here and quite a few that have gone on to bigger places like NFL Network and CBS Sports.”

Bryant continued, “This award is a fantastic honor and to be included among the other Hall of Fame members is surreal. But this is absolutely a team effort.”

Bryant becomes the 23rd member of the Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame, joining previous honorees Ian Allan, Greg Ambrosius, John Benson, Matthew Berry, Paul Charchian, Cliff Charpentier, Steve Cohen, Glenn Colton, John Dewan, John Hunt, Bill James, Emil Kadlec, Lawr Michaels, Daniel Okrent, Peter Pezaris, Rob Phythian, Peter Schoenke, Ron Shandler, Glen Waggoner, Charlie Wiegert, Bill Winkenbach and Rick Wolf.

His induction ceremony will take place June 14 at the MGM Grand Detroit as part of the FSGA Summer Conference. Register for the conference at https://thefsga.org/2022-fsga-summer-conference. A complete agenda of the event can be found at https://thefsga.org/conference-agenda.
