7 Days to NYC: The NBA’s View of Fantasy Sports

By Will Mossa,    FSGA Event News

All professional sports have embraced fantasy sports as a new way to reach and retain fans. The 2014 Fantasy Sports Trade Association Summer Conference in San Francisco discussed how new stadiums for the 49ers and Vikings would be equipped with connectivity and data for fantasy football fans to keep track of their teams on fame day at the stadium.

The 2014 FSTA study on fantasy sports found that twice as many fantasy players identify themselves as fans of football or baseball than do those who have never played a fantasy game. The difference is even greater for pro basketball., as 61% of fantasy basketball players are fans of the NBA, as opposed to just 20% of non-players who identify themselves as fans.

The National Basketball Association also has embraced fantasy sports, and has been progressive in partnering with fantasy sports companies. In what is expected to me one of the most talked-about sessions at the 2015 FSTA Summer Conference on June 23 in New York City, Mark Tatum, deputy commissioner and COO of the NBA, will discuss the league’s vision for the future as it pertains to fantasy sports.

Joining Tatum on the stage for the final session of the 2015 Summer Conference will be Eric Fisher, a staff writer for the Sports Business Journal.

The 2015 FSTA Summer Conference is June 22-23 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Hotel in New York City. Registration for this event is still open. To register, go to www.fstaconference.com.
