70% of Louisiana Residents Support Legalizing Fantasy Sports
Clear majorities also support legalization in Iowa, Arizona and Washington
(Chicago, IL) – A large majority of Louisianians (70 percent) support the full legalization of fantasy sports in the state, according to a poll conducted by international research firm Ipsos for the Fantasy Sports Trade Association.
Louisiana is one of five states with laws that prevent playing fantasy sports for prizes. In early May, the Louisiana legislature took up a bill to fully legalize fantasy sports. House bill No. 475 passed 71-20. The bill now waits for a vote in the Louisiana senate.
“This polling data confirms what we’ve always believed, that residents of Louisiana are supportive of fantasy sports and want the hobby fully legalized, ” said Paul Charchian, President of the FSTA. “It’s time for Louisiana to pass HB 475 so that the state’s residents can play all the fantasy sports contests that are legal in 45 other states. ”
Three other states that prevent playing fantasy sports for prizes also have clear majorities in favor of full legalization: 64 percent of Iowans, 64 percent of Washingtonians and 65 percent of Arizonans support legalizing fantasy sports.
The state polls were part of the annual demographic study of the fantasy sports industry conducted by the FSTA. The full study will be released at the FSTA’s annual summer conference in New York at the Crown Plaza Times Square on June 22-23.The FSTA expects record attendance for this conference, which features two days of guest speakers and seminars.
